The AABIP Program Organizing Committee is requesting applications for:

Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair (SPC)

The AABIP Conference is the flagship annual event for the AABIP, providing updated scientific knowledge, cutting edge research, networking opportunities, and exposure to emerging minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and technologies related to the care of patients with thoracic disease.

Leadership Progression Structure

Selected candidates will serve in a two-year leadership progression within the Scientific Program Committee (SPC):

2027 Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair Term:
  • 2027: SPC Co-Chair
  • 2028: SPC Chair
2028 Scientific Program Committee Co-Chair Term:
  • 2028: SPC Co-Chair
  • 2029: SPC Chair
Scientific Program Content Track Subcommittee Members
Applicants not selected for the SPC Co-Chair role may also be considered for Scientific Program Content Track Subcommittee member positions.

Description

The Scientific Program Committee (SPC) serves within the oversight structure of the AABIP Program Organizing Committee (POC) and is responsible for developing and organizing the scientific and educational content for the AABIP Annual Conference. The SPC works within the broader Program Organizing Committee structure, which collaboratively oversees overall conference planning.

The duties include, but are not limited to, developing the scientific program agenda by selecting the topics and presenters, developing content, and coordinating with the Program Organizing Committee. The selected individual will assume the position of Chair for the Scientific Program the following year (i.e. during the second year of the term). This is a voluntary service position.

Position Requirements:
  • Physician member of the AABIP in good standing
  • Five or more years from completion of most recent formal fellowship training (IP or PCCM)
  • Demonstration of prior service and engagement within the AABIP
  • Demonstration to collaborate effectively within committee structures and workgroups
  • Be prepared to dedicate no less than 2 hours each week, including participation in weekly meetings with the scientific program committee and monthly to bi-monthly meetings with the program organizing committee 

This role requires active engagement throughout the full annual conference planning cycle. While scientific program development is most intensive between October and February, responsibilities continue throughout the year and evolve into ongoing planning, coordination, preparation, and conference execution activities leading up to the Annual Conference each August.
