Description

The AABIP EBM Learning Curriculum offers IP fellows a concise, organized, and engaging learning environment to deepen their understanding of Interventional Pulmonology throughout their fellowship year.

Fellows are grouped into teams of 4 to 5 and complete monthly modules, each representing a core IP topic and consists of:
  • Summarized landmark research studies
  • Pre-recorded faculty video lectures
  • 1-hour informal case discussion with faculty and other fellows
  • Practice questions via the iPass app
  • A graded quiz at the end of the month

Monthly and cumulative scores are tracked, and the top four teams will win prizes at the end of the academic year.

Core IP Modules:
  • Methods to Diagnose Pulmonary Nodules
  • Mediastinal Staging
  • Malignant Effusions, Thoracoscopy, and IPCs
  • Non-Malignant Effusions
  • Pneumothorax, Bronchopleural Fistula, and Persistent Air Leaks
  • Malignant Central Airway Obstruction (Non-Stent Management)
  • Benign Central Airway Obstruction (Non-Stent Management)
  • Airway Stents, Lung Transplant Complications, and Tracheobronchomalacia
  • Bronchoscopic Lung Volume Reduction
  • Hemoptysis
  • Percutaneous Tracheostomy and T-Tubes

Roles and Responsibilities

Module Authors will be assigned a topic from the core 11 topics listed above and be responsible for creation and maintenance of that module. This will include starting a module with a sample case, performing a literature review on the selected topic to extract landmark studies, summarize the studies in PICO format on a powerpoint slide, and having a summary point slide at the end. They will also create at least 10 well written questions with detailed explanations based on the module. Some modules have pre-existing authors and work can be divided in that case. Currently seeking authors for modules titled “Non-Malignant Effusions” and “Percutaneous Tracheostomy and T-Tubes.” However, if you have an interest in another topic, please apply and make note of that. Time commitment is variable. New modules will likely take 10-15 hours to create. Maintaining ongoing modules will likely take 4 to 6 hours per year per module you work on.

Curriculum Editors will work with the editing team to ensure quality of modules created by authors. This includes reviewing grammar, spelling, organization, layout, and aesthetics of the module. They will also review questions and answers to ensure they are sufficiently challenging with detailed and thorough explanations. They will communicate regularly with module authors to ensure timely updates to modules and ongoing edits as needed. They will also help with gamification of curriculum and integration with other AABIP Educational projects to make curriculum engaging and informative for fellows. Time commitment will be 3 to 4 hours per month, along with once a month meetings. Curriculum is time sensitive and applicants must have superb organizational and time management skills.


Position Requirements:

Any AABIP member in good standing who has completed formal training (fellows and current trainees are not eligible).
